Winter Texan Wednesday: Smuggling in the Borderlands 1848-1881

January 23, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

In an age of shifting boundaries across South Texas and northeastern Mexico, many people who were caught between the resulting conflicts and battles flaunted international laws by smuggling goods across the Rio Grande. George Díaz is the author of “Border Contraband: A History of Smuggling Across the Rio Grande,” and he will present a program on the first 30 years following the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. He will also discuss the smuggling still ongoing along the Rio Grande. A complementary mini-tour of part of a museum exhibit will follow the presentation.

Winter Texan Wednesday is included in the regular museum admission fee: Adults (18+) $8; Seniors (62+) $6. Museum admission also includes access to the signature Rio Grande Legacy exhibition. For more information, please contact the museum at 956-383-6911.

FRIENDS of the MOSTHistory are admitted free as a benefit of FRIENDship and must present their FRIENDship card at the Admissions Desk.
